Audience
Primary schools are asked to send the person who leads on attendance issues at school and who would be facilitating the ATTEND Framework meetings.
Outline
Outline for the training:
(i) A recap of the psychology and impact of school non-attendance;
(ii) How ATTEND fits into the revised Graduated Response to Non-attendance, which reflects the most recent DfE guidance 2022 and 2023; Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) including Anxiety Related Non-attendance (ARNA) | The East Midlands Education Support Service (em-edsupport.org.uk);
(iii) How the ATTEND Framework works and how to implement it appropriately and safely through a structured meeting with parent/carers and school staff;
(iv) How to manage potentially difficult conversations;
(v) Action planning to support collaborative problem solving using the ATTEND Framework. This includes our new document which signposts Nottinghamshire schools to available resources.
Description
This 2023 training is subsidised by the W4ER fund and therefore future courses may increase in cost.
The ATTEND Framework, developed by Dr Adele Tobias based at Brighton and Hove EPS, is an early intervention, systematic way of identifying the underlying reasons for pupil absence and aims to engage families in a collaborative process to put together effective support plans.
Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) Development Work supported by the Wellbeing for Education Return Fund (W4ER).
Booking Information
Cost £80 per person. Primary schools will receive a free copy of the ATTEND Framework. Secondary schools and Family SENCos, who attended the 2022 training, previously received free copies.
All participants will be eligible for free online supervision during the current academic year, facilitated by a qualified EP using the W4ER funding (dates and details for this pilot to follow at the training dates).
